Manchester United all-time leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney is set to join Everton in a sensational return by the end of the week, according to The Sun.
Having seen Zlatan Ibrahimovic leave last month, United are set to lose another talisman with the paper reporting that the captain who has been linked to Everton several times, has been left out of the traveling squad to the United States for the pre-season preparations.
It was reported yesterday that Jose Mourinho is frustrated by the lack of movement by United in the transfer market having only signed one major target Victor Lindelof out of a possible four.

It is clear United are in need of a striker and talks to sign Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid appear to be stalling now and then with Real reluctant to sell the Spaniard on the cheap.
Everton have been extremely busy already this summer, but reports suggest they will offer Rooney a whopping £250,000-a-week to come back to Goodison Park.
Having unleashed the striker, Everton hold a special place in Rooney's heart that the forward once said he wouldn't play for any other club if he ever left United.
