WATCH: Michael Carrick's testimonial (Match Highlights)

It was a joy to watch some of United's greatest ever legends roll down the years and produce an exciting performance at Old Trafford once again.

In what was a testimonial match to acknowledge the service of one of the best United midfielders of our generation, the action didn't dissapoint.

With Carrick himself, the main attention, he did well to organize a perfect showpiece that ensured Sir Alex Ferguson returned to the dugout once more, and the 2008 Champions League winning team taking to the pitch against a select All-stars XI that had the finest Carrick has ever faced.

With all funds set to go to Carrick's newly formed foundation, it was satisfying to see over 70,000 fans turn out as if it was a high-profile Premier League match.

Indeed it was a up to the quality of a league match. I can tell you the 2008 class could still easily win the league.

With Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic, Ryan Giggs, J.S Park, Scholes, Ferdinand, Neville, Van der Saar and co all still as fit as ever, it's clear most of them could still walk into the United current team.

Goals were all what people came to see, and boy they did! With Mediente opening the scoring for the All Stars, managed by Harry Redknapp, Nemanja Vidic stepped up as he did for years to head home a perfect Giggs corner.

With scores level at the break, the All Stars again took the lead in the second half and it was Robbie Keane who struck.

The United side piled forward to find an equalizer with Scholes and Rooney wasting chances, and Van der Saar making impressive stops but it was that man Michael Carrick who stepped up to smash home from 20 yards to grab a typical Fergie time equalizer.

And the man himself was delighted to get on to the scoresheet.

"It's incredible," he told MUTV. "I've pictured in recent weeks how the game was going to go and how the day was going to go and if everyone was going to be fit enough to play and all sorts of things.

"But the game was great – I think everyone enjoyed it – and to score was amazing, probably more amazing for my kids watching in the stands because they were begging for me to score today."
