Chris Smalling has revealed he voted for fellow defender Antonio Valencia in the ongoing United Player's Player of the Year polls with the awards night set for Thursday at Old Trafford.

The defender who himself won that award last season revealed in an exclusive interview that it was hard for him to choose Valencia over United talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

"There were two players I thought of voting for. Zlatan, because he's been our talisman this season, the one scoring the goals. But I actually voted for Antonio.

"I think Antonio has been so consistent, at times he's been our outlet, whether he's been playing at right-back or on the right wing.

"He's been so dependable as well, not just in an attacking sense, but also when he's been defending. Any winger or striker that comes up against him has to get around him.

"That means they have to be stronger or quicker than him, and neither of those is easy!"

This particular poll is only for Man United players while the fans get to choose the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year who this time include Antonio Valencia, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ander Herrera.

It promises to be a fascinating poll, with all those players for sure deserving the recognition for their impressive seasons.

David de Gea has claimed that award for the past three seasons in a row, so expect his dominance to be halted this time round.

Voting is still ongoing at ManUtd.com
