Wayne Rooney has been having a bad season both for club and country.
He was booed by a section of England fans during the international match vs Malta at Wembley and was also left out of the starting XI against Slovenia by interim manager Gareth Southgate.
Mourinho was very sympathetic to the Captain's position and spoke out for him; saying that Rooney feels at home at Old Trafford.
“He was not booed by Man United fans,” Mourinho clarified.
“To be honest, the last match when he went to the warm-up I was feeling Old Trafford was behind him and immediately supporting him during the warm-up before he came on against Stoke.
I think at Man United he feels at home, at Man United he feels the respect he deserves.
Not at Anfield, obviously, but he knows that here he is respected.”
While Rooney has been left out by Mourinho due to his drop in form, he's had some impact upon coming on as a substitute.
It's likely he will still be left out of today's match vs. Liverpool, but even then, I think he is still of use and can make an impact.
Last season, Rooney scored the winner at Anfield and based on his personal feelings and obvious love for these kinds of games, he'll be hoping for another chance to prove himself.
Until then, we respect Rooney and even with his form down, we know he's fighting to make a come back. #ComeBackStronger #Respect

Reports suggest Mourinho is set to leave Rooney out of the starting XI against Liverpool on Monday night.
However, even if this is the case, there is no reason to boo a player of your team, especially the captain of your squad just because of a rough patch of form.
Rooney scored the winner in the league last year at Anfield and will be hoping for a chance to prove himself on the main stage once again.
